Unfortunately, we are at that point in the year when we need to start thinking ahead to winter. Winter in Central Oregon brings its own unique set of problems. One of the most important precautions for properties with sprinkler systems is to make sure that the water lines don’t freeze. Time is quickly approaching to schedule “sprinkler blow-outs”. If you were on our list last year, you will automatically be signed up unless you opt out. Please contact our office immediately if you wish to opt out or if you want to make sure that you are on our Sprinkler List.
Some other winterizing tips include purchasing foundation vent plugs, replacing weather stripping, and installing hose-bib covers. Here in the High Desert, vent plugs help block cold air from getting under the home to keep the floor warmer and heating bills lower. We recommend checking the weather stripping at your property if it is over 5 years old. The stripping needs to be replaced if it is torn or worn out. Hose-bib covers are necessary for older properties that do not have frost-free faucets already installed.
We have several qualified handypersons who can do this maintenance work. Please contact our office if you have any questions, or if you would like for us to do an inspection to determine what maintenance needs to be done before winter sets in.
